SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Police arrested 17 suspects in a shoplifting sting.

The Saginaw Township Police Department partnered with the Saginaw County Sheriff Department and the Michigan State Police to cut down on retail fraud this holiday season.

The sting took place Dec. 8 and 9 at nearly two dozen stores in Saginaw and Kochville townships. More than $5,000 worth of merchandise was recovered by police.

A couple of the suspects arrested also had outstanding warrants, police said.

“This cooperative effort will hopefully send a message to thieves that we take crimes against our business community seriously.  If you plan on committing a crime against our businesses, we will hold you accountable,” Saginaw Township’s Chief of Police, Donald Pussehl said.

The Saginaw Township Police Department said they plan to conduct additional shoplifting stings in the near future.
