SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A Saginaw County sheriff deputy and two others were hurt this morning in a crash.

It happened at about 3:05 a.m. Tuesday on Gratiot Road and River Road in Thomas Township.

Investigators said a Saginaw County Sheriff’s deputy was heading east on Gratiot when an SUV failed to yield and tried to make a left hand turn onto southbound River Road.

The driver turned into the deputy’s path, crashing into the driver’s side of the car.

At the time, the deputy was heading to the Saginaw County Jail to lodge a subject that was under arrest.

The deputy, his passenger and the driver of the SUV were taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Their injuries didn’t appear to be serious, officials said.

Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
