Man remembers brother killed in crash that hurt sheriff

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A man who died last Thursday in a head-on crash with a Lapeer County Sheriff had aspirations of becoming a police officer, his brother says.

Allen Babcock, 27, died after police say his minivan crossed the center line on Davison Road near Oak Road in Davison Township.  The van crashed head-on with Lapeer County Sheriff Ron Kalanquin's police cruiser.

""I probably treated him like any other big brother would treat their siblings. Body slams, and cleaning the room but forcing him to do it so I could go out and play, but there also those times I'd have to stand up for him. He'd get bullied, and I'd have to step in and be big brother," Babcock's brother, Jeff, said.

Jeff said his brother couldn't be an officer, because of a condition that causes seizures.

He kept his fingers in law enforcement, though, by helping run the Genesee County Fire and Rescue Facebook page.

Kalanquin is still recovering.
