Family in need of help after fire destroys home

Posted: Updated:
SANFORD, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan family has had a rough go after they lost everything in a fire.

Now, they’re depending on the good graces of others to get by.

Amber Bovee, her three children and her mom are safe and warm in a house they just found to rent in Sanford.

Less than a month ago, though, they were nearly killed. Bovee said she woke up about 3:30 in the morning to their home on fire.

"I jumped off the couch.  I screamed for my daughter.  Drug her out of the house and we got the rest of ‘em out. Just in time,” Laura Lee said.

The mobile home they were renting went up in minutes. They lost all their clothes and toys and personal belongings.

The Red Cross put them up in a hotel for a few days. After, they bounced from friend to friend for a while until, gratefully, they found an unfurnished home.

Amber works as a home healthcare provider and her mom works at a restaurant. They're happy to have a good roof over everybody's head now, but they'll need some help to make Christmas happen this year.

If you or anyone you know can help, call the Rescue Squad at 810-232-3900 or 989-758-2044.
