SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

One Mid-Michigan woman is living without heat right now and she doesn't have money to fix that.

Susan Anderson's furnace is broken and she can't afford the repairs. She is fighting to stay warm while recovering from a broken leg.

"It's been really hard," Anderson said.

With the temperatures below freezing, Anderson has been using her oven to try to heat her house. Safety experts said that route is not recommended.

"Scares me. I'm on my hands and knees praying," Anderson said.

She is on disability and brings in $700 a month. It's enough to pay the bills, but not fix a furnace, she said.

She said the issues with the furnace have only highlighted other problems in the house, like damaged windows that do little to keep the cold air out.

"I dress warm all the time and then I have this little space heater that I'll keep in my room and keep my door closed. And then I'll have the oven running out here and I'll turn it on and off because I'm afraid to leave it on," Anderson said.

She said she has reached out to other agencies for help, but feels she has nowhere else to turn. She is hoping the Rescue Squad can help make her a little warmer for the holidays.

"I mean, I just would appreciate and I would be so thankful to be able to get this taken care of," Anderson said.
