KALKASKA COUNTY, (WNEM) -

Authorities seized marijuana and several guns over the weekend from a speeding vehicle with two children in the backseat.

Michigan State Police troopers said they stopped a speeding vehicle on Saturday, Dec. 17 on US 131 in Rapid River Township.

The truck was going 68 in a 55 mph zone on snow and ice covered roads, according to officials.

The vehicle had Alabama license plates and was occupied by two Michigan residents and their children, ages 2-years-old and six months.

Troopers said when they made contact with the driver, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

A search found two ounces of marijuana, 35 pieces of marijuana gummy candies (1 lbs 3 oz) and 18 ounces of marijuana butter, police said.

According to officials, the 31-year-old female passenger from Manton had a valid MMA card, but was not properly transporting or possessing the marijuana as required by law.

She was cited and give a court date.

During an additional search of the vehicle, troopers found five handguns in the center console of the truck. The guns were uncased and unholstered. One of the guns was also loaded, police said.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Manton, did not have a concealed pistol license.

He was lodged in the Kalkaska County Jail on multiple CCW violations.
