KOCHVILLE TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Residents of a Mid-Michigan township are working to band together in an effort to keep water service at their homes.

Road work planned along Davis Road in Kochville Township means about a dozen homes will lose their water when the old line is ripped up next year. The water comes from the city of Saginaw, but that will end when the construction begins.

"We have a disabled vet on this line. We have a newborn baby on this line. We have three homes that are heated by steam heat, so if that water is turned off, they not only not have water but no heat as well," one residents said at a meeting Monday night.

The families are circulating a petition to consider their options.

The water line is slated to be removed in December of 2017.
