A local animal shelter recently took in a stray cat who needed some medical attention.

It turns out, the cat was a long way from home.

The cat named Ceal showed up at the Saginaw County Animal Care Center just in time for Christmas and in need of a little miracle after surviving on plastic.

"We got her over to veterinary health center and in the process of that, they found a microchip," said Lisa Stoffel, with the animal shelter.

They tracked down the cat's owner and were surprised to learn the owner lives in Victorville, California.

Ceal went missing six months ago more than 2,000 miles away in southern California.

"We did a little bit of research. The only way that we can figure that she got here was got into a truck, a long haul truck driver's truck somewhere and made it here all the way to Michigan," Stoffel said.

Now that Ceal is recovered from veterinary care she is ready to go home. However, her owner is unable to make the trip to Saginaw to pick her up.

The animal shelter is looking for someone who is heading to California to take the cat with them.

"We will provide the health certificate that she needs to get onto the plane and also the carrier and all of her vaccines," Stoffel said.

Stoffel hopes someone will step forward who is traveling that way and will take Ceal with them. She is grateful they were able to find the cat's owner.

"She came all the way from California and it's the only way that she tells the story is that microchip," Stoffel said.
