Massachusetts Pirate Party looking for candidates for office

BOSTON (AP) -

The Pirate Party is looking for a few good candidates for elected office -- eye patches and parrots not required.
Still on the fringes of the political spectrum in the U.S. and most other countries, the movement which claims chapters in nearly 70 countries has registered a handful of successes, including in Iceland where it recently won several seats in parliament.
On Saturday, the party is holding its annual conference in Boston to discuss issues ranging from personal privacy and "open culture" to increased government transparency.
Massachusetts Pirate Party Captain James O'Keefe says the party is seeking candidates to campaign under the Pirate Party flag for local and legislative seats.
One of the party's core ideals is the free flow of information.
Party officials have called for the abolition of government patents and for limiting how long copyrights can stay in effect.
