Watch: Adorable abandoned sea otter pup gets some well-deserved TLC

Posted: Updated:

(AP/Meredith) -- An abandoned sea otter pup that was found on a beach in Alaska is receiving care from a wildlife team at the Alaska SeaLife Center in the coastal community of Seward.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service deemed the pup non-releasable, and veterinarians think the animal is about two months old.

“We are cautiously optimistic with his improvement,” Lisa Hartman, the center’s husbandry manager, told KTVA. “The first weeks after admittance to the center are always the most critical.”

KTVA reports staff at the Alaska SeaLife Center are grooming and feeding the pup every three hours in a private area, but the otter pup should move into the center’s I.Sea.U area eventually so the public can see him.

The pup has been named "Kasilof" in recognition of where he was found.
