DETROIT (AP) -

The family of a Detroit-area woman who was killed after tipping off police about a drug dealer has settled a lawsuit against Oakland County for about $1 million.

Attorneys say Shelly Hilliard was killed and dismembered after a police officer revealed her identity in 2011.

The officer, Chad Wolowiec, was assigned to a regional drug unit in suburban Detroit. He was accused of putting Hilliard in danger by giving certain details to the drug dealer's companion.

Details of the settlement were released Tuesday in response to a public records request by The Associated Press. Oakland County says an insurance company is paying $1.07 million. Attorneys will get one-third, or $355,000.

When asked during a deposition why he revealed that Hilliard was an informant, Wolowiec said he didn't know.
