(Meredith) -- Over the last several years, retailers have opened their doors earlier and earlier for Black Friday shoppers -- with many stores opening as early as Thanksgiving Day.

As the holiday shopping season approaches, more than 50 stores say they will be bucking the somewhat controversial trend. Some businesses are even taking it a step further and will be closed on Black Friday, according to BestBlackFriday.com.

The website is keeping a running list of stores that plan to remain closed during the holiday. The number is expected to grow as Black Friday gets closer.

Should retail stores be closed on Thanksgiving?

Yes. Employees need to spend time with their families!
No. Not everyone celebrates it. Plus, I need my deals!
