(Meredith) – A driver in Massachusetts thought it would be a good idea to attach a homemade license plate to the back of a Buick, but it didn’t fool police.

The crafty driver apparently made the plate using two simple tools: a pizza box and a magic marker.

The Hopkinton Police Department posted a photo of the fake plate on Facebook with a word of advice to other drivers.

“Here’s a little advice to those aspiring to make their own license plates…don’t,” the department wrote. “But if you do, make sure not to use cardboard from a pizza box and magic markers.”

The driver, who was not identified, is facing charges that include operating an uninsured and unregistered vehicle and attaching “homemade plates,” according to the department.
