Recent construction left a man with a flooded yard and basement.

For months, Henry Davis said he has been forced to clean up an expensive mess.

He said the water constantly runs from the field behind his house into his backyard and ultimately into his basement.

The retiree has lived in his Flint home for 23 years. There used to be apartment buildings behind his house, but they were torn down this past summer.

Ever since then, when it rains hard the water starts running straight for his place.

It has already ruined some of his possessions.

"All the items that was on the floor. I know all of those is wet and probably got to be thrown away and all the shelves and everything I have down there probably have to be thrown out," Davis said.

The Genesee County Land Bank owns the property where the flooding is coming from.

Faith Finholm, with the land bank, said the land bank paid a private contractor to demolish the apartment buildings. She said TV5's questions triggered some action to be taken.

As a result, an inspector and engineering firm will take a look at the problem.

Finholm said if it is found the contractor caused the flooding problems, the contractor will be asked to install proper drainage to prevent future flooding.

Meanwhile, Davis said if the drainage problem is fixed everything should be OK.

"If they can do that, I think we can all live within harmony," he said.
