Voting for privatization of Bay City bridges rescheduled

Posted: Updated:

The Bay City Commissioners have rescheduled a vote on the privatization of two bridges.

The vote was set for Dec. 18, but the city commission has moved it to give the public more time to understand the proposal and work with county leaders.

The vote is being placed on hold and a future date has not been determined.

The vote would decide if the United Bridge Partners would acquire the Independence Bridge and the Liberty Bridge.

In June, the private firm offered to buy the bridges as they said the structures need millions of dollars in repairs.

Public Works Director William Bohlen said the firm would plan on placing toll booths if they acquired the bridges.
