Prosecutors in Michigan are seeking second-degree murder charges against a former state police trooper.

Mark Bessner was suspended after using a taser on a 15-year-old who was killed in a crash.

Other officers are also facing charges in separate cases.

"And we're confident we can bring officers to justice on behalf of their victims,” said Kym Worthy, Wayne County Prosecutor.

Worthy announced charges against a state trooper and three Detroit cops in five separate cases.

"We would not have charged any of these cases if we couldn't prove each and every charge that we have filed,” Worthy said.

Bessner is charged with second degree murder and two counts of involuntary manslaughter following the death of Damon Grimes.

In August, the 15-year-old was killed riding his ATV on Detroit’s east side during a police pursuit.

It's alleged Bessner deployed his taser from a moving patrol car, hitting the teen.

Grimes crashed into a pickup truck and died.

"We don't teach this type of thing in our department. Bessner acted totally on his own, he violated departmental policy. We don't condone this behavior,” said Chief James Craig with the Detroit Police Department.

Three Detroit cops are also facing charges in separate cases.

In October, David Bivins was repeatedly hit by an off-duty officer wielding a baton.

The beating was captured on camera outside a Meijer on the west side.

"To those officers who engage in misconduct, administrative or criminal know that you will be held accountable. It is a stain on all of us but should remember it does not reflect the vast majority of men and women who do this work,” Craig said.

Bessner and two other officers are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning.

A date for the fourth officer has yet to be set.
