(Meredith) – Cortney Warren says she's never met someone who didn't meet her son, Lucas, and smile.

“He’s very outgoing and never meets a stranger,” the mother told Today. “He loves to play, loves to laugh and loves to make other people laugh.”

Lucas Warren is the newest addition to the Gerber family after he won this year's Gerber Baby Photo Contest. But not only did his precious smile win over millions, he's already broken records by being the first Gerber baby with Down syndrome.

Cortney told Today she entered the contest on a whim. After the winner was chosen, she and her husband, Jason, were contacted by Gerber, who told them Lucas was picked from more than 140,000 other babies.

Not only that, but the family was given $50,000 for winning, which they said will go toward Lucas' education. His father, Jason, said he wants his son to always look back on this moment as something he can be proud of.

“Mainly, I just want him to look back and say, ‘I was the Gerber baby. Look at everything I did,'” Jason said during an interview with Today.

Bill Partyka, the president and CEO of Gerber, said in a press release that Lucas' "winning smile and joyful expressions won our hearts this year." He goes on to say:

"We are all thrilled to name him our 2018 Spokesbaby. Every year, we choose the baby who best exemplifies Gerber’s longstanding heritage of recognizing that every baby is a Gerber baby, and this year, Lucas is the perfect fit."
