(Meredith/KYW) – An 11-year-old boy scout from Chester County, Pennsylvania received a summons in the mail to serve on jury duty.
Luke Fox told KYW-TV he was shocked to read the letter.
“I’m not over 18. I'm only 11, so I didn't think I’d ever get it," Luke said.
He was ordered to show up at the Chester County courthouse on March 28th for jury selection.
The summons came with two pages of instructions and dress code recommendations, telling him to bring a magazine to read, even where to park his car if he had one.
Luke says although he may be too young, he’d love to serve.
"They sit during the court case and listen to both sides of the story and they go into the back room, discuss it and take a vote on if the person is guilty or not," Fox added.
Luke's mom, Jeanette Fox went online and later called the county to alert them to the error.
"The response was he had to show up March 28th unless we heard from them," Jeanette said.
Jeanette added that's what she was told by a court worker until she pressed further, asking that Luke be removed.
The county said Jeanette should check off the box requesting an exemption.
"I think he would've done a great job, I would have worried more about the content he was hearing," Jeanette said.
