SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Patients at a local hospital can look forward to three new wet noses snuggling up to them.

Pollyanna, Jake, and Sampson are the newest therapy dogs at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw.

Research shows therapy dogs provide comfort, ease anxiety, and create a diversion for patients coping with an injury or illness.

"Part of the role of the volunteers within the hospital is to improve the patient experience at covenant healthcare and one way we can do that is to bring the canines into the hospital into the units and visit with patients. There's a lot of studies that show dogs have a positive impact on one's health,” said Sarah Knochle with Covenant Healthcare.

Covenant is currently accepting applications for more therapy dogs.
