A Mid-Michigan dog is on the road to recovery after being hit by a car.

Sugar the pit bull is a rescue dog and a big part of Dave Hosking’s family.

“She had a pretty sketchy past. We’re led to believe she was a bait dog. She’s the most peaceful, beautiful dog. She doesn’t do anything to hurt anybody,” Hosking said.

Hosking said she is well-behaved, but she escaped her leash for the first time on Tuesday.

“She was in her harness. She slipped out of her harness and went running around the house,” Hosking said.

Sugar ran off on State Street in Saginaw, where she was hit by a speeding car. The driver left the scene.

“She just went ahead and slinked back up to me, whimpering and all bloody,” Hosking said.

Hosking was devastated and called every vet he could.

“Everybody said the same thing, money up front. We’re on a fixed income. So, we don’t have money at this time of the month,” Hosking said.

He was really worried until he found out about Undercover Angels. Undercover Angels is a volunteer group dedicated to helping animals. They took care of Sugar right away.

“Those guys are absolutely amazing. Undercover Angels paid for her medication, her X-rays, everything,” Hosking said.

They said Sugar was lucky she wasn’t hurt worse, just a bad case of road rash.

Hosking is thankful Sugar is safe.

“Undercover Angels, you are angels. You rock. Thank you so much for helping my baby,” he said.

Sugar is set to make a full recovery.

Undercover Angels is completely funded through donations. If you would like to donate to the cause, click here.
