BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan community is considering bringing the potentially lucrative pot business to town.

However, not everyone is seeing dollar signs with the idea of a medical marijuana business moving in.

“Very upset,” said Karen Chevalier, Hampton Township resident.

Chevalier said she doesn’t want the peace and quiet of her neighborhood going up in smoke. She is fearful of a marijuana grow facility rolling up a few steps away from her front door.

“There’s fencing six to eight feet high. There’s lighting. There’s security. It would be like living in front of a prison,” Chevalier said.

Chevalier claims administrators in Hampton Township are working out a deal to bring the facility there. It’s not just the thought of seeing the plant that bothers Chevalier, but she is worried about what she’ll breathe in.

“If the wind comes this way, it’s awful close to me. I sure don’t want the smell of marijuana. I wouldn’t be able to come out in my front yard,” Chevalier said.

She insists the property value of her home will burn out too. She is adamant a marijuana grow facility does not belong near her home.

“It’s going to ruin my way of life,” Chevalier said.

The Hampton Township supervisor said nothing is set in stone yet.
