A Mt. Morris Township man was sentenced to life in prison for murdering three people in Flint in 2016.

A jury convicted Tyree Culberson, 26, of three counts of premeditated first-degree murder and related offenses for the shooting deaths of John Naum, Kenneth Curler and Tiff Loisell.

Flint firefighters were dispatched to a house fire on the 2600 block of Woodrow Avenue about 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 17, 2016.

When they arrived, they discovered three bodies inside, according to the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office.

One of the people found inside the house was pronounced dead at the scene and the other two were transported to an area hospital where they both died.

The circumstances regarding the murders were drug related and a conflict developed between the victims and Culberson, the prosecutor’s office said.

After Culberson shot each of the victims with a revolver, he set the house on fire in an attempt to cover up his crime, the prosecutor’s office said.

Culberson was also charged and convicted of a dozen other felonies including arson and related drug and firearm offenses.

“Sadly, drug related crimes including murder are all too familiar to our community,” Prosecutor David Leyton said. “Drug abuse and its consequential ripple effect is by far the number one driver of violent crime in our community.”

He was sentenced to life in prison on May 15, 2018.
