Benefit dinner held for woman who lost husband, daughter in crash

A tragic ending to a family vacation as they returned home from Florida.

A semi-truck rear-ended the family's car, claiming the life of the father and a 3-year-old.

A benefit dinner was held to help pay for funeral expenses.

"It’s something that’s just impossible to put into words," said Russell Thomas.

Russell and Kim Thomas lost their son and grand daughter in a tragic car crash last month.

Their daughter in law, Brittany Thomas was able to survive the wreck, but now will face life without her husband and child.

"God is by her side and we would not be able to get through this without him," Kim said.

Brittney, Cody and 3-year-old Aria Thomas were coming home from their very first family vacation.

They were traveling on I-69 to go home when their car was rear ended by a tractor trailer.

"It’s just never ending support. On top of this, we have been getting cards, love, gifts it’s been amazing," Kim said.

Brittney was a stay at home mom so all of the proceeds will help with the hefty cost of the funerals.

Her father, Cory Hunt, says the outpouring of support has been tremendous.

"There still people out there with a heart that’s all I can say," Hunt said.

Family and friends say they are just taking it day by day, but will never forget Cody and Aria and will be there for Brittney as she moves forward.

"You don’t ever get well, maybe better though," Russell said.

If you wish to donate, there's an account set up at the Frankenmuth Credit Union under the name Brittany Thomas.
