Authorities have arrested a man they say set his ex-girlfriend's van on fire.

Sanilac Central Dispatch received a 911 call about 1:15 a.m. Saturday, April 21 from a 34-year-old woman who said her ex-boyfriend was in her yard on the 1500 block of Main Street in Minden City.

The woman told dispatchers her ex-boyfriend, a 46-year-old Marlette man, was pounding on her door and throwing objects at her window.

When deputies arrived, they found the woman’s 2000 Chevrolet van had been set on fire. The deputies used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out. They then saw a suspicious vehicle in the area matching the description of the woman’s ex-boyfriend’s vehicle.

Deputies tried to make a traffic stop at the east limits of Minden City, but the driver did not comply. After a short pursuit, the vehicle was pulled over near the intersection of Bay City-Forestville and Ruth Roads.

Investigators found the ex-boyfriend was drunk and did not have permission to be driving the vehicle. An unloaded firearm not in a case was also found in the vehicle with ammo nearby, police said.

The man was taken into custody on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including arson of personal property, stolen motor vehicle, OWI and several others.

Police said the ex-boyfriend was also on parole in Sanilac County and out on bond in a nearby county.

His name has not been released pending arraignment.
