A simple gesture at a youth basketball tournament last week is proving that the Flint Water Crisis remains in the hearts of many across the nation.

Two teams from Flint traveled to Indiana to compete amongst 74 other teams.

“We are resilient number one,” said Chris McLavish. “This came from a group of kids that worked extremely hard to make this happen.”

The Flint Water Crisis is still touching the hearts of people from across the country.

McLavish is with Runnin' Rebels basketball says his 5th and 7th grade Flint basketball teams had a huge part in bringing more donated water to the Vehicle City.

While playing in a basketball tournament last week in Fishers, Indiana, organizers took notice of the hardships the Flint athletes faced.

Coaches and organizers were dedicated to start asking for donations and were amazed by the results even filling semi’s full of water.

“Plus the $10,000 donation for GoFundMe matching funds,” McLavish said. “Who knows where this is going to stop.”

McLavish says with in a matter of a week this donation site was made possible.

He was able to get a significant amount of water in Indiana to bring back to his hometown.

Volunteers loaded up peoples' vehicles this afternoon at the Dort Federal Event Center.

Five semi-trucks just like were jampacked full of bottled waters and residents say they are extremely thankful.

McLavish is hoping to team up with other organizations locally so his players won’t lose any momentum giving back to their community.

“I think there’s hope if we help each other,” McLavish said. “We should all have a conversation and be positive about things. Things will be OK.”
