DETROIT (AP) -

A 22-year-old Detroit man has been charged in connection with a social media-publicized paintball game that took place across a number of city neighborhoods.

Davon Williams was arraigned Friday on assault and propelling an object at a vehicle charges -- both misdemeanors.

Police Capt. Darrell Patterson was in an unmarked patrol car Wednesday night when he saw about 50 people with paintball guns shooting at each other. Williams was arrested after paintballs were fired at Patterson's vehicle.

Four other people were ticketed for disorderly conduct. No injuries were reported.

Chief James Craig referred Friday to the running battle as "Paint Up, Guns Down," and said organizers are pitching it as an alternative to gun and other violence.

Craig said weekend police enforcement will be stepped up to quell the game.
