Atlas County Park celebrates grand opening

Posted: Updated:

Nestled in Genesee County there is 150 acres of trails, hills and ponds, now just waiting for you to enjoy.

"This will give the local kids a chance to go splash in the water, catch some crayfish and get back to nature. Very scenic situation here," said Barry June.

June is the deputy director of the Genesee County Parks. He said the ribbon cutting ceremony of The Atlas County Park on Saturday afternoon created a special moment for him.

It took three years for this park to come into fruition and he's happy opening day is finally here.

"It’s extra special to me because I live in this area," June said. "I grew up along the Kearsley Creek and when I was a kid I used to catch crayfish here."

June invites the public out to fish on the banks of Kearsley Creek or launch a kayak on a stretch of the Atlas Millpond.

"It’s just a beautiful park," June said.

The park is open daily from 8am until sunset.
