Deputies: drunken man drove through intersection into resident’s backyard

Posted: Updated:

A man was arrested after deputies determined he drunkenly drove through an intersection and into a resident’s backyard.

On Sunday April 29 at about 6:35 a.m., the Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call about a vehicle that drove through the intersection of Brockway Road and East Lapeer Street, hit some trees, and stopped in a residence’s backyard at the 5000 block of Roho Drive in Peck.

The caller said the driver left the vehicle and he was walking around.

Deputy Chad Adams said when deputies arrived on the scene they determined that the driver, a 30-year-old man from Detroit, was the only one in the vehicle.

Deputies said the 30-year-old man was northbound on Brockway Road when he failed to stop at the intersection.

The vehicle then left the road and continued north through a fence and struck some trees before stopping in the backyard of a home on Roho Drive.

The sheriff's office believes that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The driver refused medical treatment at the scene and was arrested on multiple charges including operating while intoxicated and driving while license suspended.

He was then lodged in the Sanilac County Jail.

Deputies believe the man was wearing a seatbelt and said the airbags did deploy.

The sheriff’s office is not releasing his name pending arraignment.
