MIDLAND COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan man accused of holding a woman captive for several months is on his way to prison.

Johnathan Wayne Stark, 34, was sentenced Thursday on charges of third-offense domestic violence, interfering with electronic communications, possession of marijuana and a habitual fourth offender status, according to the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office.

The charges come from an investigation last summer when Michigan State Police were called to a hospital in Clare to speak with a woman who was receiving treatment.

The 44-year-old woman told police she met Stark in April and moved into his home the beginning of May. The woman said by the end of May, Stark accused her of cheating on him.

Stark allegedly refused to allow the woman to leave his sight, including escorting her to the bathroom and using a lock on the bedroom door while they slept.

The woman said Stark also became physically abusive, including punching and choking the woman. He also allegedly destroyed the woman’s cell phone.

The woman escaped on July 10 and was taken to the hospital by a neighbor.

The prosecutor’s office said Stark reached a plea agreement and was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison for the first count, 20 months to 10 years for the second count, and 14 months to two years for the final count. He was also granted credit for 290 days.
