A black bear that wandered into a Michigan neighborhood is on his way back to the woods.

Police chased the animal for a few blocks after neighbors spotted it in the Grand Rapids neighborhood Thursday.

The Grand Rapids Police Department, Kent County Animal Control, John Ball Zoo and the Department of Natural Resources were all on scene to capture the bear. They first tranquilized it, then pushed it to the ground. Officials said recent rains made the ground soft enough for a safe landing.

Officials estimate the bear weighs about 125 pounds.

They suspect it's a young animal looking for new territory. This is the time of year bears typically get kicked out of their dens and must look for a home.
