SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Saginaw celebrated Cinco de Mayo with music, floats, and entertainment.

The 39th annual parade kicked off and this year’s theme was the Life of Arts and recognized how the arts contributes to our lives.

Organizers say this year was the largest Hispanic parade in the state as more than 100 people joined in the festivities.

“I come here every year I watch classic cars I take my daughter and we just have fun pretty much,” said Michael Becerril, a parade attendee.

A festival at Ojibway Island from noon until 5 p.m. was this evening.

It featured authentic Mexican food from several vendors with live music and folkloric dancers.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the positive contributions from local Hispanics and the famous May 5th, 1852 Battle of Puebla in Mexico when Mexican forces defeated the invading French army.
