MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) -

A big dent in cleaning out animal shelters in Bay City and Midland on Saturday.

Animal shelters in those communities hosted an Empty the Shelter event.

The Bissell Pet Foundation covered all of the vaccinations and the shelters waived the adoptions fees for the homeless pets.

“We’d like to thank the public for their willingness to come down to see if they can find a pet to be an addition to their family and provide a forever home to these wonderful pets we have here at animal control,” said Jim Barcia, the Bay County executive.

Organizers say the event was a success as a majority of the animals in both shelters found a new home.

On Sunday, the Midland County Humane Society hosted another event at the County Fairgrounds where 10 rescue pets were up for adoption.
