Man hurt after falling asleep at wheel, crashing vehicle

SANILAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Authorities say a man was hurt after he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his vehicle. 

It happened about 6:45 p.m. Sunday, May 6 on Maple Valley Road near Morgan Road in Flynn Township.

Investigators said a 2013 Jeep Wrangler was southbound on Maple Valley Road when it veered to the east side of the road.

The driver, 54-year-old David Mutart of Chesterfield, told police he fell asleep at the wheel.

The Jeep hit a ditch embankment and went airborne. It flipped one time before landing on its passenger side.

Mutart was taken to Marlette Hospital by ambulance for treatment of his injuries. His condition is unknown.
