Midland physician's license suspended for fraud and substance abuse

Posted: Updated:

The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has suspended a Midland physician’s medical license.

Steven Michael Morris’ license was summarily suspended for numerous issues including financial fraud, substance abuse, and failing to report a criminal conviction in Minnesota.

A summary suspension is a temporary measure to protect the public and not a final decision that a license has violated the Public Health Code.

In conjunction with Attorney General Bill Schuette’s office, LARA also served an additional complaint on Morris which alleges that he accepted over $45,000 from seven different patients for medical procedures but did not provide the procedures or give a refund.

The complaint also alleges that several incidents of substance abuse hindered Morris’ ability to work.

Finally, the complaint alleges that Morris did not report a criminal conviction to the bureau in a timely manner.

On April 7, 2017, in Minnesota, Morris pleaded guilty to domestic assault and was placed under probation for two years.

Morris was also suspended in September 2017 by LARA after being convicted of drunk driving in both 2014 and 2017.
