BURTON, MI (WNEM) -

General Motors is opening a new parts processing facility in Burton.

The company made the announcement on Tuesday.

“Burton was the best possible location for this new facility, which will be home to the CCA Davison Road salaried employees as well as team members represented by UAW Local 651 when it opens early next year,” said Lisa Veneziano, GM’s Executive Director, Global Aftersales Supply Chain, Warehousing & Logistics. “We have long-standing ties to the community, the strong support of local and state leaders and it’s close to many of our key suppliers. We now have room to grow, and a great opportunity to serve our customers even better.”

Construction will start on the $65 million state-of-the-art facility this month.

“We are excited to learn that General Motors has selected Burton as the heart of its regional distribution operation reinvestment,” Burton Mayor Paula Zelenko said. “Burton bills itself as a community whose location puts it at the heart of it all. The GM brand has always stood for quality, innovation and inclusivity. We look forward to partnering with GM in promoting Burton as a welcoming community to work, live and raise a family.”

Once the new facility opens, GM will close the current processing center on Davison Road in Burton. Those employees will transfer to the new site.

The facility will be built by NorthPoint Development, who will lease it to GM for 12.5 years.

On Monday, city leaders in Burton voted yes to a tax break for the facility.

They agreed to a 12-year, 50-percent property tax break during a public hearing.

The facility will spread over one million in square feet at Genesee and Davison Roads.
