Bird nests are popping up all over Mid-Michigan, but what should you do if you find one on the ground?

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources said feathered baby birds may fall from their nest while learning to fly.

Many believe touching a baby bird will cause the adults to abandon it, but the DNR said that’s just a misconception.

“Their parents will continue to feed and care for them even when they are on the ground,” according to the DNR.

Instead, the risk is with moving the bird to a location the parents cannot find.

“It is better to leave the baby bird alone to be raised by its parents and to learn all it needs to know to survive,” the DNR said.

Experts also suggest keeping dogs, cats and kids away from the nests.
