GRANT TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Deputies are investigating a car vs semi-truck accident that hospitalized two men, one of them with serious injuries.

On Friday, May 11 at 9 a.m., Huron County Sheriff’s Department and several other agencies responded to a serious car and semi-truck accident on Sebewaing Road and Blakely Road in the area of Grant Township.

The investigation shows that a westbound 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 33-year-old Sean A. Mauze from Salem, Oregon, crossed the centerline into the path of an eastbound loaded 2003 Kenworth semi-truck and trailer, driven by 57-year-old Dean C. Henne from Bay Port.

After the severe impact, the semi stopped in the south ditch while the Malibu stopped in the north ditch.

The Oliver Township Fire Department has to free Mauze from his vehicle and was airlifted to an out of county hospital for life-threatening injuries.

Deputies said Henne received treatment at a local hospital for what appeared to be minor injuries.

Sebewaing Road was closed until about 2 p.m. for investigators to process and clear the scene.

Several gallons of diesel fuel from the heavily damaged truck was spilled, which required the help of the Harbor Beach Fire Department Hazardous Material Team.

This investigation is still ongoing.
