SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

There was a moving show of support on Monday for a local tow truck driver who was killed on the job in a crash during the winter.

Deann Parson, 49, is accused of drunk driving and hitting 41-year-old Thomas Tripp as he worked on a disabled vehicle along Dixie Highway in January.

She was back in court on Monday with a possible plea deal on the table.

More than a dozen tow truck drivers were there to support Tripp and to make sure the punishment fits the crime.

“It’s been a very emotional time for all of our employees,” said Bill Giorgis, owner of Mike’s Wrecker.

Giorgis was one of many giving hugs and reassurance to Joy Gonzalez outside the Saginaw County Courthouse on Monday.

Gonzalez was engaged to Tripp.

Parson is charged with driving under the influence resulting in death.

“Tommy was with us over 10 years. He was a great employee. He is a guy that would always go the extra mile, not only for other employees but for the customer. And he had a long and lasting impact. And it’s obvious you know a lot of employees came in on their days off. Some people took time to come in today just to be here,” Giorgis said.

Giorgis said he got a call Parson might take a plea deal. Nothing happened in court on Monday, but he and his crew were there just in case.

Mike’s Wrecker employees donned shirts that said slow down and move over, in memory of Tripp.

As the criminal charge against Parson moves forward, the tow truck drivers plan to be there every step of the way.

“I think there has to be some jail time. I certainly don’t think a probationary sentence is appropriate. I just don’t know what that jail time should be,” Giorgis said.
