State Rep. Gary Glenn takes heat over Consumers Energy comments

Posted: Updated:
MICHIGAN, (WNEM) -

State Rep. Gary Glenn is taking heat for comments on Consumers Energy.

WSGW reports the Williams Township republican spoke after dealing with a lobbyist for the utility company.

Glenn said threats were made to hold up a bill on long-term rates for industrial customers unless he stopped disrespecting Consumers Energy.

The Detroit News reported Dow Chemical wanted the measure to pass for its Hemlock semiconductor operation.

That bill passed but Glenn compared the company to “terrorists” he’d like to “shoot”.

The president of the Michigan State Utility Workers Council wants Glenn to step down or be removed as chair of the house energy policy committee.

Glenn wants Consumers to apologize for threatening the bill, saying it would have put 1,500 jobs in jeopardy.
