SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Recently the Food Council of Michigan awarded the Caring Closet in Saginaw with a grant and two industrial freezers.

Now the organization is asking the community to help fill the freezers.

“Even Hidden Harvest right here, lots of times will have frozen chicken and things like that people really need. I mean those are the expensive things for them to buy so with the freezer we can take those kinds of donations and have them for people,” said Anita Collins, the Director of Caring Closet.

The food pantry celebrated it’s five year anniversary with a food donation partnering with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, there was also a special lunch and recognition for volunteers.

The Caring Closet has served more than 10,000 people with food and household items since its creation.
