SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

An annual event has raised nearly $33,000 for the homeless animals in Saginaw County.

The Saginaw County Animals Care and Control hosted the second annual Fur Ball on Friday, May 18 at Apple Mountain.

On Tuesday the shelter announced $ 32,862 was raised at the event. All proceeds go toward building a new facility for homeless and mistreated animals in the county.

“The constructional integrity of the building is shot, the plumbing is not supportive of an animal shelter,” said Michelle Sawyer, who is heading of the Fur Ball event. “We really need a building that was designed by shelter architects to get all of the components that are needed to properly care for the animals and keep them healthy so that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Attendees experienced a fun-filled evening of dinner, dancing, live, and silent auctions with a chance to meet some adoptable pets.

TV5's Sara Simnitch emcee'd the event.
