CARROLLTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A 7-year-old girl was seriously injured and is in the hospital after she was hit by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

It happened about 3:37 p.m. near the intersection of Shattuck and Michigan Avenue in Carrollton Township.

The 7-year-old, her sister, and one other person were crossing Michigan Avenue from west to east when they were hit by a Chevy Suburban driven by a 51-year-old Saginaw man, police said.

Police said while the girl lives in Carrollton Township, she is not a student at Carrollton Public Schools. At last check she remained in critical condition with an apparent head injury.

The girl's older sister suffered less serious injuries, police said.

Carrollton Township Police Chief Craig Oaten said the three crossed against traffic, 150 to 170 feet south of a crosswalk.

The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with police.

The crash remains under investigation.
