Brand new lawnmower stolen from Saginaw Twp. church

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A pricey piece of equipment, intended to help beautify the grounds surrounding a local church, was stolen shortly after it was purchased.

It has left the Saginaw Township pastor asking how and why.

Pastor Dominic Moes said somebody stole Connexion Church’s brand new $3,000 lawnmower.

The church just got the lawnmower on Monday.

“We did one cutting with the mower on Monday. So we’ve used it for like three hours,” Moes said. “It was just a great machine. Would’ve lasted us 10 years at least.”

The big red mower was gone within two days. They believe it was stolen sometime early Wednesday.

“Doors were ripped off the shed,” Moes said.

The lock is missing as well.

“It’s hardened steel. Not a lot of room to actually go at it,” Moes said.

He is puzzled by the crime because whoever stole it doesn’t have the key. They can’t even start the mower.

“I’m not really exactly sure how they got it on a trailer. It’s not something that would fit in the back of a truck,” Moes said.

He said they filed a police report and are hoping people keep an eye out for a red Gravely riding mower.

As for the person who took it, Moes said he is turning the other cheek.

“It happened. The only thing we can do is just pray for them. And that’s what I’ve told our people and stuff. Hopefully they’ll have a change of heart. Maybe in the middle of this we can help them out somehow,” Moes said.

If you have any information on this theft you should contact the Saginaw Township Police Department.
