A Michigan man is accused of giving a minor a bag full of sex toys.

It happened at an after-school event at Traverse City West High School last month.

However, Phillip Darga from Traverse City was just arrested and charged in court on Thursday, May 24.\

“We started our investigation after an incident occurred on April 21st at the West Senior High School,” said Cpt. Randy Fewless with the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office.

Fewless said Darga gave a girl a bag of sex toys and inappropriate items during an after-school event. The student told her parents and contacted the sheriff’s office.

“TCAPS was able to provide us with the surveillance footage they were able to identify the individual involved in this so that helped us kind of kick off our investigation,” Fewless said.

“We are always going to take swift action when we become aware of a situation that may be unsafe for students and so whenever someone comes forward we're going to help connect our families with those in the community,” said Christine Guitar with Traverse City Area Public Schools.

Darga was arrested and charged Thursday. He’s accused of distributing sexually explicit materials to a minor.

“There is also an allegation that the suspect in this case sent a Facebook invitation to the young lady involved and that was with the suspect posing as another young female student,” Prosecuting Attorney Bob Cooney said.

Authorities are reminding parents to have a serious conversation with their kids about their online presence.

“Keep track of what your kids are doing on the phone and just be aware of what they're looking at and who they're talking to and more important who's talking to them,” said Dave Kenny, a parent.

Darga is also charged as a habitual offender.

He faces up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
