LAPEER, MI (WNEM) -

On this Memorial Day weekend, a traveling wall honors the thousands who died in the Vietnam War.

Forty-Three years after the war ended the service members who made the ultimate sacrifice are being recognized.

The traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall arrived in Lapeer on Saturday, May 26 at about 11 a.m. in front of Ray C’s Harley Davidson.

“We had a wonderful ceremony today we had the mayor of Lapeer speaking and a lady that’s a member of the Gold Star Mothers her son was killed overseas,” said Glenn Ream, coordinator of the Vietnam Traveling Wall.

The wall has traveled from state to state for 20 years.

It gives people an opportunity to honor those fallen men and women without going to the Memorial in Washington DC.

The names of 22 men from Lapeer County are on the wall.
