Midland Co. hit hard with power outages from storm

Posted: Updated:
MIDLAND COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Midland was one of the hardest hit areas by the recent thunderstorm.

Consumers Energy originally reported more than 1,800 customers lost power in the county on Saturday.

Residents are dealing with the aftermath of the storm.

“I thought maybe we were having a tornado,” said Margaret Hopp, a Midland resident.

They say April showers bring May flowers, but in Michigan we never really know what the month of May is going to bring.

Luckily for us and Hopp, we didn’t get a tornado last night but she said it sure did feel like it.

“I was seeing the rain come down really heavy and then the trees started to blow really heavy and it got nothing but white from the rain,” Hopp said.

Hopp said she lost power around 8:30 p.m. Saturday and woke up to quite a mess.

That’s why she’s at the park, to enjoy the nice weather and wait for the power to come back on.

“We got trees all over in the yard and it knocked out the screen in my porch, it’s just bad,” Hopp said.

But Hopp isn’t the only one enjoying the park, nor is she the only one who lost power.

According to the Consumers Energy outage map, more than 3,000 Midland County customers were affected because of last night’s storm.

Consumers Energy also said online that Hopp’s power will be restored before 7 p.m. Sunday, which is a relief to her ears.

“I can’t cook or anything and hopefully the power comes on soon because I have stuff in the freezer that’s going to melt,” Hopp said.
