Several law enforcement agencies trudged through swamps and lakes to track down a Michigan man they say eluded police twice the week before.

Police said it was all-hands-on-deck when Keith Worthington, 31, was spotted in the Bellevue area in Eaton County. Worthington had been on the run from local, county and state police for hours.

Michigan State Police Trooper Jereme Miller has been with the MSP K-9 Team for five years. He said it was one of the most difficult tracks he’s had to conduct.

“We all just basically held our ground at the locations that we were at and eventually, about an hour into it, MSP helicopter aviation observed a suspect hiding under some lily pads,” Miller said.

Miller said he was called in to search with his K-9, but Worthington wasn't giving up easy. He tried to hide in ponds and other swampy areas.

“We went swimming at least five separate times,” Miller said.

MSP investigators believe Worthington is responsible for at least 14 different home invasions - dating to at least mid-April - in Barry, Calhoun and Eaton Counties.

Investigators said $50,000 in pricey jewelry, electronics, guns and other items were taken from the homes.

Miller said arresting Worthington wasn't easy.

“We are in our full uniform, just how I'm dressed now - gun belt, boots - and so between the swimming and coming out of the water and trying to track, your gear gets pretty heavy and it was kind of wearing on us a little bit,” Miller said.

After around four hours, they caught him hiding under lily pads.

“He was shivering pretty well from the cold water. We actually had to assist him out of the water by kind of carrying and swimming with him,” Miller said.

Tiffany Denton, Worthington’s girlfriend, was also arrested. Detectives believe she is also linked to the string of home invasions.
