GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A World War I era practice bomb has been unearthed in a Mid-Michigan lake.

Two young girls were swimming in Lobdell Lake, in Genesee County’s Argentine Township when they found the bomb.

They were swimming at a home off Whitehead Drive, near Silver Lake Road when the three-foot-long oblong item was found.

Michigan State Police bomb experts were called in and were able to identify it. When they drilled into the bomb, they found only mud.

Since there was no threat, the family was allowed to keep the practice bomb as a souvenir.
