Wear Orange Weekend event comes to Midland

Posted: Updated:
MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

More than 400 Wear Orange events will be taking place this weekend, including one in Midland, as a part of National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

The event will be hosted by the Great Lakes Bay Region Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in American at the Dow Diamond on Saturday, June 2 at 7 p.m.

The group will be throwing the first pitch of the game and they can be found under the scoreboard for food and fun.

Across the rest of the country, community members will gather at local landmarks as they turn orange.

The group wears the color orange because Hadiya Pendleton’s friend wore it in her honor after she was shot and killed in Chicago at the age of 15.

It happened just one week after Hadiya performed at President Obama’s second inaugural parade in 2013.

More details can be found on Wear Orange at its website.
