BURTON, MI (WNEM) -

A church fundraiser was held in hopes of bringing awareness to a local garden that helps at-risk youth.

"It’s been a wonderful weekend despite the rain drowning us a time or two," said Karen Church.

Church organized the ginormous Tent Sale in Burton. It's a three-day event that gives back to the community.

"It’s a ginormous sale for a wonderful garden program through Catholic Charities called Mr. Gaines Garden," said Church

Church said money raised will go to Mr. Gaines garden, a program that employs at-risk youth to work in the summer to grow vegetables and learn about life.

"They learn such great skills. They teach them life skills they teach them discipline, handwork. They get to work with things that are growing makes the kids know how important life is in general," Church said.

Church adds that the food grown also goes back into the community.

She says food from the garden project is then sold at the Flint Farmer's Market when it's ready.

All the items that you see here were donated from St. John’s church in Davison.

As the event wraps up, Church said any leftover items will be donated back into the community.

"Anything that is left here tonight goes to the community closet and a couple of other charities to help out other areas," Church said.

The tent sale was held at the Elga Credit Union and ended at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 3.
